How to Unsubscribe from Substack Emails

Substack sends newsletter issues from every publication you follow, recommendations, and app nudges. Here are the three ways to make it stop, from slowest to fastest.

Sweep all Substack emails free

Use the unsubscribe link in any Substack email

Open a recent Substack email and scroll to the very bottom. Click the small unsubscribe link in the footer, then confirm on the page that opens. In Gmail you can also click the Unsubscribe button next to the sender name at the top of the message.

Good news: Substack's footer link is dependable and applies to the whole mailing list, not just one campaign.

Senders can take up to 10 business days to process an unsubscribe, so a few more emails may arrive first.

Turn off email in your Substack settings

Open your Substack Settings, then Subscriptions: pause or unsubscribe per publication, or switch a publication to app-only delivery to keep reading without email.

Tip: Each Substack you follow emails independently. Unsubscribing from one publication does not affect the others; the subscriptions page shows them all.

Unsubscribe and delete the old ones in one click

Unsubscribing stops future emails; the hundreds already in your inbox stay. To find every Substack email you have, paste this into Gmail's search bar:

Then tick the select-all checkbox, click "Select all conversations that match this search", and delete. How do I delete all my old Substack emails?

Can I stop Substack emails without deleting my account?

Yes. Turning off marketing email in the settings keeps your Substack account fully active; only the promotional mail stops. Account, security, and receipt emails continue.
